Snow Flowers

It's been some time since Ed or Reub has contributed to that body of knowledge known as Very Little Science. We hope that you are edified.


 The rare and lovely Snow Flower made an appearance today.


 
 This trumpet-shaped beauty is related to the lily family.


 Snow Flower gardens are difficult to maintain and are enjoyed for very brief times.


 
Snow Flowers are pollinated, as you can see, by ladybugs.


 
 The ladybugs lie in wait for a chance to do their work.

 
 There are many kinds of Snow Flowers. Pictured here is the Spiky Snow Flower, which was also in bloom today.


The Spiky Snow Flower, beneath it's prickly exterior, has a kind and nurturing heart. This colony of Spikies lovingly cares for an adopted oak leaf. The rescue leaf was on its way to certain destruction before being taken in, and shows its gratitude in every way that it can.


Indeed, Snow Flower plants are the unsung heroes of the leaf-rescue-world.


Snow Flowers are divided into two types. This is the long-haired variety.


Here we see the short-haired Snow Flower.



Caution must be exercised around the Tarantula Snow Flower, which is given to surprise attacks against intruders, usually aimed at their heads or the back of their necks.

About leaves: a science lesson



Leaves are descended from dinosaurs.




 They are vertebrates.




 
 Although they appear to be cute, one must be cautious. They are wild creatures.



 
 Leaves are territorial, and therefore can be tense when coming upon another species.




 Introductions must be done carefully, much like cats and dogs.





 Sometimes the interactions are not friendly.



Leaves protect themselves with large fleets of airborne vehicles. They are well-organized and can create havoc at certain times of the year.




 Leaves reproduce in much the same way as homo sapiens. That is to say, they are delivered by storks.




 There is great diversity in the leaf world: some baby leaves develop into fish-like creatures.




 While others resemble birds.

Where clouds come from


Today's science lesson is on the origin of clouds.

 
Clouds are generated by two entities.




First, there must be ladybugs.





Second, there must be Queen Anne's Lace.



Ladybugs carefully maintain the Queen Anne's Lace throughout its life cycle.



This is a lot of work for the ladybugs, who travel from top to bottom of every plant, fine-tuning the system.




Only a ladybug can determine the exact moment of cloud-readiness.





And when that moment comes, the Queen Anne's Lace begins to produce clouds.





The clouds are released into the sky.




And that is how clouds are made.
