Ben is getting married and I'm holding a millipede in my hand

Well, that is an odd title for a post, but there is a little logic to it. We are cleaning out our room because it is going to get a new carpet, because we are going to have house guests, because our oldest son is getting married in 3 weeks.

There was quite a build-up of stuff in our room because I (this is a bad habit) collect things. A plastic bag containing a sewing project had lain ignored for several months. Sadly, a millipede was attracted to it, got trapped in it and died in it--causing me to jump an inch or two when I discovered it. The millipede flew into the air and landed on this drawing of mine, which (inexplicably) was also under the bed.

Weird! But I thought it was interesting, so I shuffled it off onto the drawing beneath.

Creepy. But at this point I realized the millipede was truly dead, poor guy.

Look at all of those tiny feet, all gazillion of them.

I took him gently in my hand and put him outside. Would I ever have held a millipede in my hand if Ben weren't getting married? I don't know, but I feel like I should maybe thank Ben.

  1. Well, divine or not so divine intervention gives us many experiences we would otherwise ignore.

I like your second drawing even though I'm not really sure what it is. I'm very drawn to it though.

Congratulations on your son's pending wedding and I hope you enjoy all of your house guests and that new carpet.

  3. Alas poor millipede, you have ended your existence on an existential note.

A millipede in the hand is worth---well, I'm not sure what.

But congratulations to your son on his pending wedding.

  4. Your sketches are most impressive! Hands are so hard to draw...

I love the title of this post! Couldn't you use a gazillion appendages to get ready for the wedding?

  5. I would never, not EVER, have been brave enough to hold that thing in my hand - dead or alive.

    You are MIGHTY.

Also wanted to say: congratulations on the upcoming wedding! I love weddings - they are occasions that fill me with hope.

And, thanks for your thoughts on my post about Afghanistan. Wow. It is so complicated. Thank you!
