The idea of the Friday My Town Shoot-Out is to post photos of your local community every Friday. This week's assignment was chosen by Gordon from St Augustine, Florida.
Photos taken in or near Corvallis, Oregon
First thing in the morning we walk up the driveway to get the morning newspapers and this is what it looks like; if you look up sometimes you can see a contrail from a jet.
There is easy access here to Forest Service roads; we use these constantly for walks, hikes, and runs. Logging roads such as these are more often used for recreation than for hauling timber.
In the winter (or early spring) we like to go up into the Cascades and use the Forest Service roads there for snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
Sometimes we hitch up Reub to a skijoring line and have him pull us; here he is pulling John.
And here he is pulling me. This is an old Norwegian sport. If you have a dog and snow where you live, you should try it. It's fun!
Wow, you have such beautiful country road, especially with the snow. I'm from a big town, so photos of country roads and snow are something we don't find here, an eye opener to me.
ReplyDeleteOregon is quite beautiful. I love your snowy scenes. I can almost smell the fresh air from where I sit.
ReplyDeleteNo dog and no snow - which is a shame becuase it looks great fun. Thanks for the photos - forestry roads are certainly lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou live in a lovely area of the country and your photos show that so well!
ReplyDeletethat looks like so much fun for you and the dogs!! great exercise for them, you are along for the ride. :-)how cool!! the third shot is gorgeous. love it!!
ReplyDeleteOh I love to walk on this road. Great shot!! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteCountry Roads
We have a dog and snow in the winter, but I can't picture my dog running in a straight line!
ReplyDeleteSome of these pictures are truly breathtaking, Kerry.
Ed and Reub are still my heroes. Great job.
ReplyDeleteStunning shots! And I especially love that you included your canine kids. :)
ReplyDeleteOh Kerri that is feakin cute how your dog is pulling you! I admit my husband and son have skiid, but I am afraid of not being able to stop and ending up in the trees, lol, and Robert goes cross country in our neighborhood when it gets down enough, and we live in a similar tree like area in your photos...how beautiful.
ReplyDeleteFunny I do not feel like I live in the country in the north east, but really central Jersey is pretty much farm land and winding country roads.
I'm jealous...just jealous. But in a good way. I love your roads, trails, scenes. Glad you share them with us.
ReplyDeleteLove your shots. I really love that one shot where the streak in the sky is parallel with the road.
ReplyDeletedo the dogs need special boots in the snow?
ReplyDeleteThat contrail is really something, and yours was that almost vertical abgle. Great pix.
For once I think it would be fun to have snow! I suspect my dog is getting a bit old for those antics but it sure looks like fun! Your forestry roads are lovely.
ReplyDeleteGosh, you live in a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for my sweet birthday wishes. I had a lovely one this year!
that does look like fun, dogs are bred to work and I bet they love to pull you too then to colapse in front of a fire....
