All pictures shot in Corvallis, Oregon.
Last weekend John and I went just outside of town to explore the town's watershed, thousands of spectacular acres that encompass part of the Corvallis township, some private property, and the Siuslaw National Forest. We were dwarfed by the magnificent landscape around us. It was here that I planned to take some macro shots: how strange, to look so close-up when everything towered around us, huge. Looking at macro shots is one of my favorite things, but taking good ones is a different matter. I had a little trouble with this, but I can't wait to see what the rest of you have to offer.
Green moss on a tree, covered with new-fallen snow.
There are buds here. Spring can't be too far away, right?
Because of the slight breeze, which made everything move--and the low light too--I had trouble taking macro shots. This one isn't really macro, just kind of a close-up, like the picture above.
Ice crystals on an old-growth fir tree.
Again, not really a macro, just a close-up. Because of the low light it is very blue. But then you really can't go wrong with snow, can you. It is so beautiful, all by itself, and my clumsy efforts failed to completely destroy it.
Macro are very hard to take without a good lens that lets you auto-focus as you get closer. You did good.
ReplyDeleteMacros in winter climate are especially hard - that's my theme as well...!
ReplyDeleteI think you've done and admirable job as well. A breeze is a huge challenge when shooting macros. I'm gobsmacked by the scale in the first photo!
ReplyDeleteTaking a macro is a challenge with point and shoot camera but it's doable! you did a great job here.
ReplyDeleteI came by the other day and saw the other shots you took of your forest adventure. It would be nice to see those shots again too. They were so expressively beautiful. Americans that get buds and flowers in January.... there are no buds in Canada until April!! Today, like the forest we are BURIED in snow... no buds.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful shoot out Kerry. Thank you for posting. =D
Beautiful shots. Really lovely I thought!
ReplyDeleteMacro also befuddled me...but whatever we call it your snow shots are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's snowy almost the whole world over - I think we are all going to have to emigrate to New Zealand for the winter...
ReplyDeleteI agree with others Kerry, macro or not you have some good shots. The first one is a great composition. I worked on my technique, even found a websight that had a tutorial but couldn't always get it right.
ReplyDeleteQMM
I tweaked to Close Ups too!
ReplyDeleteI thought your photos were beautiful!! That first shot was really wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOooooo Wonderful..I loved the ice crystals!! Wonderful shootout hon!!
ReplyDeleteI like what you did I think macros are just really close shots so you did good!
ReplyDeleteHi Kerry, I thought you did just fine. I chose this subject and I didn't really get macro shots either. All of my photos are of snow too. Love your pictures.
