Kittens!

Foster kitty Hester Prynne delivered four healthy babies yesterday.

Born 3PM-5:30 PM Tuesday July 31

“When I grow up I mean to be
A Lion large and fierce to see.
I'll mew so loud that Cook in fright
Will give me all the cream in sight.
And anyone who dares to say
'Poor Puss' to me will rue the day.
Then having swallowed him I'll creep
Into the Guest Room Bed to sleep.”
Oliver Herford, The Kitten's Garden of Verses

    1. I was jealous of your baby birds, but this kind of makes up for it.

    1. Yes! I should name one of them Leo! I don't know which ones are boys yet, though.

  4. So cute. Does Mommy have a scarlet letter on her someplace?

    1. Ha! She came to me nameless so I named her after Nathaniel Hawthorne's proud heroine who got knocked up but never said by whom. I doubt the name will stick! Someone will re-name her Fluffy or something.

    1. Yeah, our pups are a bit much right now, too. Hester Prynne & family are confined to their own room.

  6. Well, as I am allergic to kitty cats, I will happily enjoy them from this side of the screen.

    1. That's the best way to enjoy a cat if you're allergic to it. They do make a product for cats to ingest that renders their saliva (the offensive allergy-causing thing) neutral, in case you change your mind, and want me to mail you a couple of kittens in October.

  7. How sweet, how cute. Look at that little outstretched paw. You will have lots of photos ops in the upcoming weeks.

    1. Oh I know! I took dozens of pics today but most of them were bad. These wiggly little guys are kind of hard to photograph!

    1. I plan to take photos that the shelter can use to help get them adopted more quickly. Tough job, huh? Mama has taken to motherhood very quickly.

    1. If they were all girls I could name the whole batch after your siblings!

  12. Cute & cuddle-some kittens ! Congratulations to Hester Prynne. Did she need any help during delivery or did she deliver on her own ?

    1. RR: She needed no help. She actually purred through it most of the time, with just an occasional growl when things got tough:

  15. We don't need to see Foster-Mama-Cat's face to know she's smiling and purring over them.

    1. Ah, you are so right. I had a bunch of pics with her face showing, but this was the clearest shot of the babies & you can tell how relaxed mama is w/out actually seeing her face. She purrs the whole time.
