This from a yogini/blogger/author seeking enlightenment in India: "I hate it when people do posts about the weather. It bores me senseless." Ah Braja, how differently I feel about that.
Tundra Swans passing through. Hundreds and hundreds of them, on their way to the arctic for the summer. |
The change of seasons and weather creates movement in the natural world. Who would want to miss that?
Pussy willows under clouds and sun.
Crocus blooms, shining by themselves.
Sheep with their babies, let loose in the vineyards to trim the spring growth of grass.
The ponds all brimming with water, alive with frogs and newts. It may be that this bores you, but y'know what? I don't care, and could look at it all day.
The fields, emerald green: John and I had a picnic here the other day, soaking up the spring sun.
The weather is an unfolding, unending drama, never more so than in the spring of each year.
Welcome springtime! Bring on your weather.
...and just for fun, although I know you'll have to squint:

oh, you've got some lovely springtime views to share! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. T'is the season!
DeleteLovely pictures
ReplyDeleteI have a camera full of spring shots. Every where you look there's a picture.
Deleteoh, i hear you!! especially in the spring, it never ceases to make me so excited! coming from the midwest, i thought that talking about the weather was the basis for just about every human conversation!
ReplyDeleteand those swans are amazing...nice set of shots.
Seriously! What midwesterner can't talk about the weather and not be fulfilled?
DeleteThe swans were a fabulous surprise, seen on the way home from the airport near Eugene.
Wow.. it's really spring there. You have some lovely photos. My sister just sent me a pic of the tundra swans which have stopped by her place on the north shore of Lake Erie. I would love to have a picnic at that table. Such a lovely setting.
ReplyDeleteIf only you had been here with your wonderful eye and great camera. You would have gotten much closer, better pics of those swans.
DeleteAh yes!!!
ReplyDeletePerhaps weather matters when each change is both subtle and so anticipated. Here in the Northwest, we're starving for sun, sun, sun, and so does our vegetation. As for me, I've planted seeds and starters and enjoy every minute that I'm not indoors.
I think you're right. We really do look forward to the change from winter to spring, and sometimes those changes are subtle because the winters are rather mild.
DeleteWe don't have enough sun in our yard for a good garden, so I envy you.
Beautiful! Happy spring to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It should be spring pretty soon in PA too.
DeleteHow can anyone be bored with spring? Such beautiful pics. And I had no idea swans migrated. I never really thought that there was a wild swan population. I guess I thought all the swans in the world lived as pets in people's lakes. That would be so cool to see migrating swans. It's been an odd spring here a warm end of January and early February had everything confused and trying to bloom. Then we had three weeks of cold weather. But now the trees are leafing out so I guess it's spring for real.
ReplyDeleteBefore we moved to the NW that's what I thought about swans too. But we get huge flocks of these guys in Feb and March & I love seeing them. There are Trumpeter Swans, too. I'm not sure I could tell the difference, though. One of them has a straighter neck, I think.
DeleteOh Kerry, thank you for the promise of spring!! It's snowing - yet again - tonight and I'm sick, sick, sick of it! I'm so ready for shoots coming up and buds high in the trees. Of sandhill cranes in the fields (we don't get those gorgeous swans!) and the song of the robins. And predictable sun! This is a very gray week here, so send some of that warm sun our way. Your beautiful pictures give me H.O.P.E.!!
ReplyDeleteMore snow? You've had so much in the past weeks. Surely it will melt soon and spring will be there. The poor robins that have probably started to trickle in; I hope they can hang in there.
DeleteAs you know, I LOVE posts about the weather, thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe swans! Wow.
Bring on spring, I say. C'mon!
You write so well about the weather, which is such a powerful presence no matter where we live. I am so aware of the weather in DC through you.
DeleteThis is an awesome series of images on weather changes. The first one looks like a forest fire which is quite common in the US. But I know it is simply mist or fog or low sweeping clouds not fire. The tundra swans, the pussy willows & crocus blooms are spectacular. I trust it is spring time in Oregon ?
ReplyDeleteIt does look like smoke, doesn't it? The forest fires that rage here all come in the dry summer months. Yes indeed, it is spring here in Oregon.
DeleteThat shot of the Crocus blooms left me weak. It is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteI find crocuses astonishing; they seem to jump out of nowhere, all bloom and no leaf, as if they're hollering "Surprise!! It's spring!"
DeleteYour defense of the weather was very well presented. I particularly liked this sentence: "The weather is an unfolding, unending drama, never more so than in the spring of each year." Keep talking and bringing your lovely photos to your blog! I enjoy it all so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you Gail! I am a self-appointed attorney for the defense of weather!
Deletebored? ha! i could sit here and stare at these all day ... its raining here .. uck
ReplyDeleteTruth be told the sky is gray today.
DeleteI could never get bored with the weather here in Texas! Love your shots - what a beautiful place for a picnic!
ReplyDeleteTexas has drama galore, everywhere. That sky of yours!
DeleteBeautiful series of photos. I also love your header photo!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. One of these days it will be time to change the header, but I like the way Reub looks down here:)
DeleteThose crocus blossoms just leap off the screen, Kerry.
ReplyDeleteYou are all set to participate in tomorrow's Tiny Harmonies. Thank you for signing up!
Yep. It's scheduled for some god awful time before I'm even up in the morning.
DeleteOh goodness - these shots are pure magic!
