Grocery store randomness

There was a busker in the K-Mart and Safeway parking lot this week. Weird, huh? I gave him a dollar because he improved the place substantially.

Kellogg's  shamelessly named a cereal Krave.  It comes in 2 flavors: chocolate and double chocolate. Want some?

I haven't tried Krave, but here's a video review courtesy of chow.com. ("It's like you took a Hershey bar and shaved it into a bowl of milk, awful, man...use your best judgement. Don't put it in your mouth.")

I do love how grocery stores have added foods demanded by various ethnic groups, and I often buy this stuff for fun. But you have to draw a line somewhere. Pig's feet are that line.

This happy couple is at the grocery store quite a bit. Because he always wears shorts, one's eyes are drawn to the Beavis and Butthead tattoos on his calves.  Not sure what he has there on his arms, but I bet it's unique.

  1. she's in a jacket - he's in shorts. :) opposites attract.

my father loved pickled pigs' feet. and pickled eggs. and head cheese. GROSS!

kinda cool to have a sax player at the entrance.

    1. My dad used to like pickled pig's feet too! Was that a Wisconsin thing?

  2. I cam across a guy singing "Hey Jude" recently on Michigan Avenue and he was so good that I thought some store was playing a CD out loud to the street. Most street performers here sadly though are very bad.

    1. Most of the buskers are pretty terrible here too. I wouldn't say this guy came close to your Hey-Jude-man, but he was better than the parking lot noise. I suppose the parking lot sets a low bar.

  3. My dad also love pickled pigs feet. I was told by a Thai manicurist man I should eat pig shanks to strengthen my nails! 90% of cereal is NOT to be eaten.

    1. Oh I believe I would rather have weak nails. Pickled pig's feet used to come in glass jars, and the feet were packed in gelatin. I wonder if the manicurist was suggesting gelatin?

Probably all sugared cereal is almost as bad as Krave.

  4. May I just thank you on behalf of that busker? :-) Especially because he plays one of my favourite instruments, the sax. My son is studying saxophone and he is very good at it. Lovely post. Many thanks.

    1. Cuban, you're welcome! I always give buskers a little something if they improve my day at all:) I wish more people would at least stop and listen. Does your son play any jazz?

  5. Ron loved pickled pigs feet and I never acquired a taste for it. He also ate Kim chi which I did acquire a taste for. It is wonderful with rice and soy sauce. I could make money playing my sax in public. People would easily pay for me to leave:)

    1. Funny! Ron got the whole jar to himself, with your blessing. Kim chi is available at the grocery store, but I've never bought it. My niece loves to make it from scratch. I should try it again; maybe I'd like it.

Do you really have a sax? I would absolutely pay you a dollar to hear you play it! You better start practicing.

  6. I agree with the taste guy. I've only tried the original Krave and it's A.W.F.U.L.!!!

    1. You've tried it! I bet it doesn't last long.

  7. Maybe it's just me, but surely there's something to the notion--my notion, as it turns out--that all saxophonists should be shot on sight.

    1. That's pretty much what John thinks too. They often play too many notes, and too loudly.
