Rush hour

Friday My Town Shoot-Out was something I used to do regularly. FMTSO is a small group of folks who post a few theme-based pics every Friday, focused on the area in which they live. Some members are actual professional photographers, while others of us use point and shoots or phone cameras. It's about sharing where you live, at the same time learning to use whatever camera you may have.

In front of my house: traffic! Wild turkeys cause mini traffic jams all the time. YOU may be in a hurry, but they never are.

The other day I received an email from Ginger, an old shoot-out buddy who has since moved back to the US from Brazil. Ginger's personal invitation to come back was irresistible. Why not? Today's theme is "rush hour."

I live in an Oregon town too small to have a rush hour. If I have to wait at a light for longer than 2 minutes it's unusual. But in the spirit of the idea, I thought I'd hop in the car and search for a rush of some sort.

No dice. It's snowing like crazy out there and I'm not going anywhere. We got 6 inches in 4 hours this morning. This is my shot of "rush hour," dang it. It's taken right where the turkeys were crossing a few days ago. No fabulous pictures of colorful vehicles with tail lights streaming in the darkness for me.

So to get my fix I will hop over to the Friday shoot-out website and check out who is posting.  There may be something from Houston, or Sweden, New Zealand, or Singapore.  In fact you guys, why not post something there yourselves? Let me see where you live, coffee cup in hand, without having to move from my chair.

    1. twg: we have an over-abundance of turkeys here. You can have a few dozen if you like!

Yeah I've been reading about foul weather down your way. Better stay at home today too.

  2. I love the two different weather images of the same spot. No need for traffic shots. Clearly you have enough turkeys on the road. ;)

  3. The turkey traffic jam is so funny. I wouldn't mind seeing more of those in my neck of the woods. Fab shots!!

    1. I'm surprised you don't have them encroaching in LA. You have oaks there, right? That's mostly what they need. They're on their way, maybe. I love watching them, but most people would be only too glad to pack up all of them and send them off someplace else.

  4. Your blog reminded me of a funny sign we saw when traveling from Winnemucca to Boise. The road is way out in the wilds and you can travel for about 3 hours without seeing anything. Then half way to our destination we came across this sign "CONGESTION" Two gas stations at a road crossing east to west! Too funny! Too bad I didn't think to photograph it.

    1. No. It is bad out there. There is a rescue squad and crew stuck badly down the street-been there for an hour and cannot get out. We gave them 2 snow shovels, but there's ice everywhere & even having chains on they can't get out. Waiting for a tow truck I guess.

  6. I love your photo of the snow fall. bet everyone was rushing home to be inside before the snow got high. just looking at it gave me the shivers. guess I have to be happy with our cold 41' day - and not complain about it. 5:30 and its dark outside, promise bad storms tonight.

    1. It was snowing hard at 7AM so a lot of people just stayed home, although John went in to work for a half day & wished he hadn't. Right now there is an ambulance stuck just down the street...they've been there 2 hours. They took the patient out on a sled to a vehicle a few blocks away. So stay home in bad weather! Don't even set foot outside your door.

  7. I guess the road would look like your second shot, even at rush hour, when the weather is bad enough. I thought we had a few turkeys around here but have never seen more than one or two on the road at the same time. You really do have them in spades.

    1. That's true, isn't it? It's always a bit eerie to see pics of the big interstate highways in a storm. They're so empty you could take a nap, if only the weather weren't so bad. :-)

  8. Two absolutely perfect rush hour photos. Left me laughing out loud at both of them!

  9. We sometimes see wild turkeys too. Lovely winter pic. Our snow is mostly gone, but we're expecting more early next week.

    1. Wild turkeys are spreading everywhere. I'm glad for that even though many think of them as a nuisance.

The snow is sticking here: it is cold.

  10. We are snowed in. There was a time we saw many wild turkeys but haven't seen any this year. Lots of deer run across our property but by the time I grab my camera they have vanished. Your photo of the wild turkeys is exceptional.

    1. Hey Granny, you got a big snow too, didn't you? Hope you're staying snug. Do they hunt turkeys by you?

  11. Great to hear from you Kerry. That is a great shot of the turkeys. Ginger has really worked hard to revitalize FSO.

    1. It is beautiful. Funny how I longed to go take pictures of tail lights, though. Oh well, another time. It's not like cars are going extinct real soon.

  13. On Friday when I got off work I did take a picture of the parking lot because of the snowing and icing, then I got in the car so Dwayne could take me home. I should have taken pictures because we saw wrecks, and expressways shut down completely with cars stranded, and it took me three hours to get home. But I was just too busy side seat driving, LOL!

  14. Lovely pics both. Looks like heavy snow out in your place. My daughter reports snow in Boise too. Glad I am not visiting there now :)
