A doe decided to take about a 2 and a half hour nap in front of my trail cam last night. Oh man. Her portrait was taken every time she lifted her head...she slept in one to two minute intervals. Yikes. I have restless nights, but not like that. You never actually see her sleep in this series of shots, but she must've rested her head between each one. It makes me exhausted just watching her. Yawnnnnn, I think I need a nap right nowwwwww...
I wonder if deers do that all night long? Lovely video. I love deers.
ReplyDeleteJarieLyn I think they do this 24-7 ? Always aware of predators. Awful. But they seem adapted to it.
Deletepoor baby! i'm hoping they sleep better during the day. those radar ears don't allow much down time, though. :)
ReplyDeleteI love watching her ears for 2 minutes! My fave thing about these trail cam shots.
DeleteI wonder if that is typical. They certainly are vulnerable at night.
ReplyDeleteI bet the sound sleepers all fell prey to cougars. It must pay to be wakeful.
DeleteMuch head movement, but she didn't exactly toss and turn.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Her body never budges, does it?
DeleteI guess you have to be really alert in the wild! Mostly, our deer forage through the night (please - not my gardens) and sleep by day. I have never come by any actually sleeping, though I can sometimes see the grass flattened where they bed down. This one seems to be all alone without a herd.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to see this doe sleeping at night; apparently though, they nap on and off throughout both day and night. And they sure do love almost everything in the garden. Grrr.
DeleteBless her little heart. I guess they have to stay somewhat alert during the night. Makes me appreciate my dismal sleep habits.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm not complaining anymore when I wake up every 2 hours. :)
Deletesomeone told me that the albatross sleeps while it flies since it never makes landfall.
ReplyDeleteSleep-flying. How could that possibly be restful.
Deleteawwww, always on the lookout, staying safe.....this is so cool!!
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty cool that she chose the spot right in front of the camera. :)
DeleteHave a lot around me here. It is hard to persuade my little dogs not to chase Bambi, they went after a baby the other day on a shoot. At least they call off quick. A neighbor is booked for his lodge for the rest of his life he claims. No pay for no deer, but you can lasso them. He will make one of my goats for a party coming up, makes a nice jerk he also uses for deer. Look close at that bike shot, I call her my Voodoo Child. My daughter is excellent with custom paint jobs. Looking at Milwaukee when I can move better. I am 5 hours away. Have some great shirts from the House Of Harley Davidson up there and have bought 2 bikes from them.Need a custard fix also.
ReplyDeleteWow, you really ARE out there, Mr. Prairie!
DeleteI let the dog out last night and there was a deer staring at me. The dog never noticed it since it held still.
ReplyDeletePoor things.
ReplyDeleteOur dogs seem to have extra sensors for deer; they smell them before I ever see them. Good thing we have a fenced yard.
