Reub's journey

Just wondering

1. If you use an RSS feed, which one is it? If you used Google Reader what did you switch to?

2. What's your favorite car? If you had two big dogs and an infant car seat, a need to drive on mountain roads, a wish for decent gas mileage (but a mechanic who dislikes hybrids), and didn't want to spend 30K what would you buy?

 3. Finally, what are these things and why would I find a pile of them at the edge of a field of grapes?

Just wondering.

  1. 1. Almost ten years of blogging and I still haven't figured out what the RSS feed means.
    2. Sorry. I have a Chevy Malibu and it seems to have awful gas mileage. I kept saying that but it was only after Dwayne started driving it did he believe me. Hmph.
    3. I have no idea what they are. Mini tillers for elves?

I was absolutely no help. :( Sorry I was so useless today.

    1. Actually that was helpful. Nix on the Chevy Malibu, and I think we've made a giant step in identifying those thingies. Elf tillers!

  2. I have tried all the RSS readers and they all have negatives. The one I am using currently is Red Tree Reader - http://www.redtreereader.com, which I like mostly.

  3. 1. i switched to feedly the day google said they were closing down reader and haven't looked back. a few quirks at first, but easily worked thru them. lots of folks like bloglovin, too.
    2. sorry. no help.
    3. why do i think they are fence line tighteners? but that's exactly what flashed in my brain when i saw them. and no, i've never used them or had them, but...

    1. Feedly is kind of well-liked isn't it?

Living in TX I imagine that you have guessed right because you might come across these there.

  4. Never used RSS.

    Honda CRV.

Grocery cart parts, where the wheels are supposed to attach?

    1. The you probably depend on independent feeds like blogger following/friends.

A Honda CRV is definitely not a bad choice for us.

Grocery carts! The right silver-y color for that.

  5. #3: They are indeed tighteners --In-Line Strainer by Field Guardian-- about $4 apiece and reusable, therefore piled up and collected at harvest. Grape trellis wires don't just support vines but also the drip irrigation hoses that are quite heavy when watering. These devices keep everything from sagging during the growing season.

    1. Ahh. Boy, did you ever nail it. That makes perfect sense. Mystery solved, thank you!

  6. Ha! I was just going to comment that you should ask Geo, and here he is, with the perfect explanation, as usual. I would have said they have to be from Ikea, but Geo's explanation makes more sense.

    1. Ikea! :-D If these were at Ikea they would only be 50 cents but you would have to put all the pieces together yourself.

  7. 1.Here in India RSS is associated with a prominent Hindu Group founded in 1925 to unite all Hindus to fight the Foreign rule. For details please log onto:

    2. Perhaps you should buy a sturdy 4-W drive :)

    1. 1. I hadn't heard of that. Good to know.
      2. At least an "all-wheel drive" which isn't quite the same thing, but still great on slick roads.

  8. I switched to Feedly from Reader. It's actually better than Reader. There's a paid version, but the free one works for me. I use it as an add-on to Firefox. I know they have one for Chrome and I assume for IE too.

You have quite a combination of auto needs. I couldn't find much in the way of positive results for hybrids in my recent research. You might need a somewhat larger SUV than a CRV or RAV4. My daughter recently purchased a Hyundai Santa Fe, which might suit your needs. It's slightly larger but not a tank. I am sure that all of the companies have a similar-sized model.

    1. A lot of folks seem to like Feedly.

I know you're doing car research & I am interested to see what you get. Will look into the Hyundai. Also the Subaru Forester.

  9. 1. I just use the blogger dashboard or, for not blogger blogs I add the url to my blog list on the right side of my blog. don't use any RSS or other readers.

    2. My favorite care was my 1984 Volvo sedan DS. we drove that car to the moon and partway back. the motor just would not quit. everything else fell apart at one time or another. if I was rich I would have spent whatever it took to completely restore it but I'm not and so after it stranded me 3 times in 6 months about 4 years ago, we bought another vehicle. probably no help to you.

    3. I have no idea.

    1. 1. A sensible way to do things.
      2. We once bought a 1984 Volvo DS for $1 from a neighbor in Alabama. We put 1K of repairs into it to get it running & it was the kids' car for a long time. It made it all the way to Oregon & 3 years later committed car-suicide by frying its electrical system. Donated it to charity & have a soft spot for that model ever since.

  10. Tried several feed readers and ended up with Feedly. Seems to have the least glitches. Sorry, I have no idea on the other two questions!

    1. Feedly has gotten several votes here. Must be something good about it. :)

  12. I have no idea what an RSS feed is as much as I've blogged. Crazy eh? And I drive a Toyota Corolla. Gets good mileage!

    1. Not so crazy. Looks like a lot of bloggers pass on RSS.

Back in the day when Corollas were kinda new models I got a speeding ticket in Mexico driving a Corolla. Ten dollars. Cash. Corollas don't even go that fast. I'm still pissed.

    2. Not a Ford Fiesta (although I love mine).
    3. It looks like something the dentist keeps in the back until the anesthetic has taken effect.

  14. I do not use an RSS feed.

I love my zippy Colorado extended cab pickup but wish I could afford an Altima hybrid like my brother has (positive it cost lots more than 30k). Amazing gas mileage, comfortable, plus loaded with gadgets that I could probably never learn to use. lol

We had grapes in Kansas but didn't' have any of those shiny things.

    1. I have a fondness for Nissans ever since one of the kids bought himself one in high school. It lasted forever, maybe because of its super simple engine. It's still in the family.

John has a Ford Ranger pickup from 1993. We will never part with that truck.

  16. Oh, wow! So many questions and I don't even know how to answer any of them. Just don't get a Kia...my husband and I have a firm belief that they would disintegrate on impact. I've been in one very horrific car accident (bad injuries and everything) and it was in a VW Passat and we were very lucky to come out alive. Just an idea if you're looking at safety.

    1. How awful that you were in a bad accident. That is terribly traumatizing & there can be lifelong injuries constantly reminding you of what happened...ugh. I hope it happened long ago and that you recovered well. Are Passats prone to safety concerns, or did you make it out because it really was built well? I completely agree about the Kia; it looks about as safe as a tin can on wheels.

  17. 1. Don't use RSS either. I did try Google Reader and just never ended up using it enough.

    2. In spite of MM's warning, I do like my Kia Sorento. :) I have put two dogs in the back, though it's a big snug for big dogs. My make & model has good reviews from Consumer Reports.

    3. They look like spurs. Perhaps someone wanted their grapes to run faster.

    1. 1. It would appear that almost everybody gets along just fine without RSS. hmm.
      2. Kias are probably made better now than they were 10 years ago, plus they are economical.
      3. I thought they looked like spurs too! Lots & lots of spurs, as though a crowd of cowboys gave them all up at once.

  18. I use Feedly also. I resisted it at first but but have come to understand and love it. I'll take you one further and recommend a replacement for iGoogle which is gone in just a couple of days. It can be personalized exactly like iGoogle and even has popular links built into - including Feedly. You can find it at http://www.ighome.com/.

    1. Thank you Hilary! I have been a fan of iGoogle & wondered how to replace it. I have a silly addiction to its particular version of Hangman.
