All of these pictures were taken in Oregon by my husband John.
It's hard to capture sunsets and sunrises in the part of the Willamette Valley where we live because there are mountains both to the east and the west, obscuring the pink and orange that is surely there.
But if you hike high up into the Cascades, you're just that much closer to the moon. John took this picture a bit east of us, in low light, with shadows creeping up the side of the mountain in front of us. The setting sun was not visible except for the golden light it cast.
Better yet, go farther east to capture a real sunset. Although our annual forest fires are something we dread, they do produce the most amazing sunsets. This one, enhanced by the smoke of a forest fire in Wallawa County, Oregon, was taken from the back yard of Barking Mad Farm B&B. These photos have not been altered to change or increase their color: it's all about the smoke in the air!
The same vivid sunset, colors changing as the seconds ticked by. It was like watching a movie.
Those are glorious!
ReplyDeleteOh, these are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe sky is just an extraordinary colour! Absolutely breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteMoon over the mountains... is that a song? It's a beautifully lonely picture. You can hear the coyotes howling as you gaze at it. Your pictures are stunning! Thank you for choosing these ones to share.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are wonderful. I really like the pink in the sky. It's a beautiful color, but sad that it was caused by smoke in the air. No matter, it is quite a lovely scene.
ReplyDeleteI love the first shot of the moon over the mountains - so pretty!
ReplyDeleteNice moon shot! Your shots are amazing.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame we need horrid fires to produce those beautiful scenes for us, isn't it. Maybe they are nature's compensation! Just love that last one.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots. Glorious color.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, I was there last year, September...beautiful part of our country! These are very nice. I am jealous, cannot get a good moon pic at all, well yet!
