Friday My Town Shoot-Out: Sounds

The idea of the Friday My Town Shoot-Out is to post photos of your local community every Friday. This week's assignment was chosen by NanU from Aubiere, France.

Photos taken in Corvallis, Oregon.

Well, it has been raining for days, pretty much what you would expect in January for a temperate rain forest in the Northwest. The streams and ditches are noisily carrying their full share of water.

It roars out of culverts.

And patters on your windshield. At night you fall asleep with the sound of rain.

But there are months when you won't hear a single drop of rain, and the noisiest place in town might be the Saturday farmer's market on the riverfront. Above is a high school band being directed by a formidable student leader.

There are always musicians of many kinds at the farmer's market.

There is a visible aura of sound surrounding the singers in this group, created accidentally by a drop of water on the camera lens (I was bummed when I realized it later, but forgot to delete the picture).

If you click on this picture, it is kind of weird how his feet rest on the top of the water, but put dents in it.

But when all is said and done, most of the time this is really a very quiet place.

  1. Ah, the sound of the rain. Sad, calming, cleansing. Beautiful shootout, Kerry!

  2. Love the conducter creating noise with her hands. And the final silence of the waterbug seems loud in comparison.

  3. It rained heavily here this morning, and the perfect place to be is always at home! We have a permanent market place and a food court next to it, so it's very noisy everyday.

  5. Ah, the sound of rain, I can hardly wait.

I loved your second photo, rich in colour and texture!

And I can just imagine the student band.

    This is great fun!

  6. Nice job with all the musical shots and the contrast with the bug last is great. I do appreciate silence!

  7. I happen to love the rain. But Edward most decidedly does not. He droops and heads straight for his bed.

  8. I love your rain/water shots. Strange how the sight of a girl waving her arms around brings with it the sound of music. But my favorite is the dead silence in the last shot. Beautiful!

I love the last photo, is he trapped, taking a nap, stopping for a drink, or just drunk :) that is kind of poetic, hmmm
