Reub's journey

Blueberry season is finally here

Blueberry season is several weeks late this summer due to our long chilly spring, but finally it has arrived. My daughter and I went blueberry picking and managed to collect about twenty five pounds of berries in maybe 45 minutes. This doesn't count the ones we ate as we went along.

John made one of his specialties: blueberry pancakes. Chrystal commented that they represented the perfect combination of places we have lived: maple syrup for Wisconsin, pecans for Alabama, and blueberries for Oregon.

  1. Beautiful! I picked blueberries in Georgia at my brother's home back in June... it was warmer there & the berries were just getting ready. Lovely post!

I love biting into fresh blueberry pancakes. The berries burst in your mouth.

  4. Kerry, you are making me soooooo hungry for something blueberry.
We can start with pancakes and end with muffins.
They are very similar in size, shape, and color to the ones we used to pick in New Hampshire.
    Happy MW Blues.

  5. I am so jealous and I am not even a big blueberry fan. I just love how they look. Our half-dozen bushes which were supposed to ripen about a month ago were all damaged terribly by raccoons (or perhaps a groundhog). Nothing this year and we have our fingers crossed for next year.

  6. Wonderfully delicious looking fresh blueberries! They are always so expensive if you buy them at the shop! Wish we had somewhere to just pick and eat them!

  7. I meant to answer your question about the butterflies. They love zinnias and tall phlox. They also love lantana. Oddly enough the butterfly bush doesn't get as much attention.

  8. I visited Deb the first week of July and before the terrible heat hit, she, the two girls and I went blueberry picking! Also found some delicious raspberries ready to pick. Yum!!! Did we ever enjoy the fruits of our labor! Blueberries on cereal, in yogurt, but mostly in delicious jam that Deb made - in spite of the overwhelming Ohio heat!! Store bought blueberries just don't cut it once you've had berries freshly picked! Merry

  9. This is truly delightful. I love blueberries...our bush is finished, but we can still get them from New Jersey. What do you do with all the berries?

I love your blue presentation of your pancakes too.
