FSO: Smells

The idea of the My Town Shoot-Out is to post photos of your local community every Friday, and hopefully improve your photography skills. This week's assignment was chosen by NanU from Aubiere, France.

The smell of the salt, sand, and brush along the Oregon coast is so wonderful. I think we'll head there tomorrow and take it in.

Meanwhile here in Corvallis we have the Benton County Fair this weekend. Kettle Corn, anyone?

The rose garden in Avery Park is loaded with fragrance right now.

And because our summer was slow to arrive, there are still lots of beautiful fragrant wildflowers in the Cascades to the east of us. This picture is taken from Iron Mountain, where we recently took a hike.

Our neighbors have a lavender farm, and they have been giving away bouquets to people who walk through the park next to them. The note says: "Please enjoy a bunch of lavender!"
Why, yes, thank you very much. I think I will.

  1. I do miss the scent of the seaside, and of popcorn. Maybe I can cook up some of the latter tonight. It must smell nice to be next to a lavender farm!

  5. What a lovely collection of smells. My lavendar is past its best but I give thanks that it's still flowering at all in the middle of winter. Such a lovely, comforting smell, and so beautiful.

  6. I was going to do Popcorn too. Doreen too posted it. Just yesterday, I promosed my students to bring some popcorn to school. We were learning helathy food, and they 6 year old think that corn on cob are the only way to eat corn.

I always feel tempted to steal lavender when I walk past a clump of flowering ones. In a sense, it is lucky my husband is allergic to pollen, so I am healed of my bad habit.

  10. I miss going to the fair. Our fair here is about an hour away in a small town and is usaully held in March or April when the wind is blowing really hard and it's cold and only last for four days. Who wants to go to the fair when it's cold?

I really like your photos, especially the last one. That lavender looks really fresh and pretty.
