Friday My Town Shoot-Out: Patterns

The idea of the My Town Shoot Out is to post photos of your community every Friday, and hopefully improve your photography skills. If you would like to see patterns from other parts of the world, go here.

All photos shot in Corvallis, Oregon

This time of year we have tons of spider webs. If it is misty in the morning, they show up really well and you can avoid walking into them.

Last Saturday it was sunny when I took a walk downtown. The weather was nice enough to have chairs and tables set up outside.

The farmer's market was having a big day due to the sunshine and the loads of lovely fall produce.

The sidewalk in front of the restored Majestic Theater is adorned with stars naming the many donors who chipped in to fix up the old building.

This fire escape made me a little dizzy.

I went to the public library to check out some books.

In the sky-lit atrium of the library there was a brand new piece of art: Siuslaw Sun Showers, a mobile consisting of glass pieces.

They are meant to resemble the play of light and color as you look up through the trees in the nearby Siuslaw National Forest: with the blue sky showing through the sky light above, it really did look like that.

The artist is Michele Gutlove, who works in Boston, but got a degree in architecture from the University of Oregon. Wow, what a luminous piece of art!

  5. I wish the spider webs around my house were that clear. I walk into them all the time. This one looks like it was made from rope! And the fire escape looks very confusing...I'd hate to enter that maze in a fire.

  6. Yes the shots of the web are excellent, of course I am no photographer pro, but I know what I like. I like the mobile too. Great job Kerry.

  9. That fire escape certainly captured my attention. Spiders are the ultimate pattern makers, aren't they? And I like the apples! Maybe I just have a pattern for liking delicious things.
