Kerry fails the art test

I listened to the State of the Union last night, and was pleased to hear the president criticize "teaching to the test," my least favorite trend in education. Because I teach art, I have been spared the standardized tests that occur in other disciplines; and you know what, somehow the kids still make progress, and I am still accountable.

But what if they had to take a test? Would it look like THIS? Holy cow!! I got so stressed out taking this test that I received a terrible score!

  1. That's an interesting test. It took me a while to figure out what was expected so after a couple of perplexed clicks, I started over. I got perfect scores on the first two but kind of went downhill from there.

  2. not sure what the scores should be, but it took me a while to figure out how to do it too!! that was really challenging! i had to kind of turn off my brain and go with intuition, letting my fingers and eyes do it on their own...

  3. I guess the secret to any test is practicing it a few times first. I definitely improved on round 2. But was I ever bad on Round 1.

Some schools practice test-taking up the wazoo, and that's the problem with tests. They use up a lot of time when you could be doing something else.

  4. I think it won't work on the iPad. That or I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing.

  5. I should mention that you have to click on the word THIS, not on the picture. If you do that it should work on the iPad.

  6. Ok, so I tried it on my computer but it still took me a while to figure out what to do and the once I did, to get control. I still wasn't sure how moving the mouse translated to the screen. I hadn't quite pinned that down when it was done. I got a 0, 1, 1, 3, 3, 3. The first three I totally blew trying to figure out what to do. the last three I mostly perfects and very goods.

  7. Ellen, yeah, you're just like me. (Only I got a 0 on the quaternary part of it, while I pondered what quaternary colors are!) If I didn't get so flustered by the fact that it was timed, I could have figured it out better. I know my color sense isn't bad, but I was bad at this test at first.
