Reub's journey

Tuck learns a lesson

Eddy here. I have spoken more than once about the kittens inflicted upon introduced to the household after Kerry fostered their mother last summer. I've found them to be of extreme interest; in fact I keep tabs on them 24-7. Somebody has to. They have more bad ideas than you can shake a stick at.

Why are they allowed on the "good" couch, anyway? Reub and I can't set a paw on this thing, yet they're free to lay all over it and make those freaky grinding sounds with their teeth every time they see a bird.

At the same time I can't seem to keep them from dominating my bed on the floor. Bah. How can they sleep so much?

They're sneaky. This is Tuck unsuccessfully attempting a look of innocence while sitting on a chair. Tuck has a weakness for warm spots, and I can tell she's planning to jump down and find a heating vent to nap upon.  The house is freezing these days because the cats are blocking half the heat to the upstairs.

But ha! Her affinity for warm spots got her in trouble this week, yes it did. See how she can't leave the fireplace alone?

In the morning there's still some heat left in there from last night's fire. She's basically making herself comfy on live embers. I thought to myself one of these days she's going to learn a hard lesson...

And this morning, um, check out her nose: a burned spot. Ouch. I guess maybe she won't be hopping in the fireplace any more. Now if I can just get them off my dog bed.

  2. I've never heard of a cat going into a fireplace...unless to use it as a cat box.

    1. Really? She only wanted to curl up in the warm ashes. I would have liked it if she had left a snack for me, but alas she never used it as a litter box.

  3. get some silver nitrate for her nose ... i know this because once my husband accidentally poured hot water on our Gus who was under foot in the kitchen ... you'd think after getting burned, going to the vet and having to have salve applied for a week he'd have learned .. but no

    1. Huh. I wonder if we have silver nitrate lying around here. That's a good tip. But her nose is better today, healing up nicely. We really hope she will stopping napping in the fireplace!

  4. BUT, I am of like mind. I did the same with my cats-- they had to learn the hard way for most things. Hence, one walk across a hot stovetop was the last time they ever jumped on the counter. Score. Poor cat, but score for Momma.

    1. Ellen, hahahaha! I wish I'd thought of that. We should get her a chihuahua-sized sweater! They're probably marked down this time of year.

  6. Oh my gosh, I am smiling big! Poor Eddy having his bed hijacked and watching the cute kitties getting away with murder. Guess he had the last laugh. LOL or should it be BOL (bark out loud?).

  8. Eddy, you must forgive Kerry. A person cannot know in advance what a big job they are inflicting on a good dog like you. You certainly better keep a close eye on the pair of felines because I'm pretty sure the best...oops, the worst...is yet to come.

    1. If you say so Granny Annie, I'll forgive her...but honestly, what was she thinking? Keeping TWO? And you're right, there is certainly more mischief to come!

  9. Yikes. I don'tknow what it is about black and white cats but they always seem to get into more trouble than the average feline. Let's hope she never gets inside when it too hot.. she'll make an ash of herself. Wonderful photos. I love the one with the chair.

  10. I get dogs, but cats are absolutely mysterious to me.

    1. It's been a while since we had a cat around here. They ARE very different & mysterious. You can't trust them like you can trust a dog. At the same time they're very companionable, playful, and loveable. And these two are still kittens, which makes them quite funny:)

    1. I don't think she'll go back in there, the little devil. And they are super cute! We had house guests who left their door open so that the kittens could bug them at night; I draw the line at that.

  12. Only one thing to do, Eddy - drag your bed over to the the fireplace and doze in it constantly!

  13. Oh oh, you have one crazy kitty there. At least we all know enough to stay out of the fireplace, except maybe Mack.
