Jellyfish haiku

Suze, at Subliminal Coffee, has posed the second of 3 springtime haiku challenges. This is my contribution on the topic of "adaptability."

Jellyfish in an
aquarium. They don't seem
to mind it too much.

    1. I love jellyfish. A few years ago there was a show at the aquarium of glass works based on jellyfish. Gorgeously inspired.

  5. Fun. I should go down to our museum and get some jellyfish shots. I have been thinking of it for a while.

    1. They're actually pretty easy to photograph. You should give it a try.

  6. Wild photo - I love it. My haiku is also animal-related this week. Nicely done!

    1. I have a number of jellyfish photos. The camera works surprisingly well in these low light conditions.

I read & enjoyed your submission!

    2. This shot is through glass, correct? Are you a diver? Any underwater photos?

    3. It is through glass, and I'm not a diver. Too claustrophobic for that. I think they use volunteer divers at the aquarium, though, and wouldn't that be a trip? You could visit the octopus one day, and the sharks another.

  7. I can't take my eyes off of the photo--nor stop giggling over Daryl's comment.

Nice to see your mighty fine puppers too.

    1. I was surprised at the blueness of this photo, and I didn't tinker with the color either.

      The dogs love the beach.

  8. They look like little parachutes. So sweet. Cute haiku. Have a great weekend. :)

    1. Don't they look like little silk parachutes? So delicate.

    1. Yes, they do. The jellyfish is well-suited to this assignment.

  10. I like your new header, too.

That image of the jellies is just stunning. Your haiku has a childlike authenticity about it that I am half in love with.

    1. Wow, thanks Suze.

Simplicity is a goal of mine.

    2. Mine, too. I manage it very well in some areas, but not all ...

I hope you participate next week. I like hanging out here. :)

    3. Your prompts so far have been difficult to resist, so I'll likely be back. I like hanging out at Subliminal Coffee & have been slowly reading your posts from the past weeks. So good.

  11. Good job with the haiku.

I don't mind seeing jellyfish in an aquarium, either. Atlanta Aquarium's jellyfish are beautiful and magical to watch. But in the wild, I mind seeing (and feeling) jellyfish very much.

    1. Yeah I've been stung by these guys in the wild myself & it really hurts. Much better to get up close with glass between us.

  12. Very cool photo and haiku, Kerry. I sure wouldn't want to be the one who put them in there, though.. or to have to take them out.

    1. I hadn't given that too much thought, but no! I wouldn't want that job either. Our daughter had a summer internship at this aquarium a few years back. I'll have to ask her how they do that.

  13. Just as well. In an aquarium they are and bound to stay.

Your previous post was about the weather? You could have fooled me. It was an ode to joy.

    1. To feel upset would be an exercise in futility I guess.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I love weather.

  14. It's hard to tell whether they mind or not. Every time I'm think I've figured out jellyfish, I begin to doubt that I know the first thing.

    1. Yeah. They are sentient beings, maybe super sentient with all those feelers. It's hard to know.

  15. Wonderful haiku !
In the Osaka Aquarium they had several types of jellyfish and I fell in love. There where one that was so tiny and was under a special light and it glowed.
    So beautiful.
And yes, when I use to body surf jellyfish stings did hurt but who cared I didn't I was just so happy being in the ocean. Meat tenderizer do they still make that ? was our friend.

    cheers, parsnip

    1. I bet meat tenderizer is still the treatment of choice!

One of the best big displays at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, not long after Keiko the whale left for Norway, was the special jellyfish exhibit. I was amazed at the diversity and beauty of these creatures. Magic.

  17. Hi Kerry, thanks so much for your visit...I love the haiku...rather like the image of the jellyfish in the aquarium rather than on the beach!

    1. That's true! Much prettier alive and in the blue light rather than dead and squashed on the beach.
