Short bloom

The hint of summer-to-come has arrived: heat. By this weekend the temperature will rise into the 80's, high for Oregon, even in July.

The spring flowers will have a short bloom. This is a trillium saying good bye.

The transparent petals are like the skin of a very old person, but the center is like the belly of a pregnant woman.

Meanwhile, in the house I keep cut flowers long past the time when they're "fresh."

This is when they are at their most delicate, each petal ready to drop.

Exquisite.

    1. It's been beautiful for a couple of weeks, actually very dry. Farmers started irrigating in April & that is not a good thing. I fear we will have a huge wild fire season unless there is rain, and soon.

  3. Our last few days have been lovely .. finally. Your flowers are lovely in this or any state. The trillium is our provincial flowers.. Ontario.

    1. I love trillium. They were my wedding bouquet, picked from my parents woods in Wisconsin.

    1. Thank you GA. To protect the flowers from the kitties I have to surround the vase with sticky-side-up packaging tape. Otherwise they would be shredded.

    1. Looks like the chilly NW is a hot spot this weekend. Maybe the heat is headed your way though.

  6. Old people and old trillium flowers get thin skin. If this drying is May, I sure do fear August. Heck, I fear June.

As for Loach's low, here in Eugene (which is near Kerry, Loach), the predicted low was 34 at least one day within the last seven.

    1. Gonna be a bad fire season this summer. Unless we get rain soon, and lasting awhile. I have every confidence that this will happen because we've just hired a contractor to re-roof our house sometime in May.

We also had 2 pretty cold nights here in Corvallis, but the day time temps have been quite warm. It's like summer out there today.

  7. we have purple trillium wildflowers. none in my yard but they bloom on the roadsides. 80s, ha! 80s is still spring here. but the weather is definitely unsettled since we have had nights in the low 40s this first week of May. unheard of.

    1. 80's is summer for sure in OR. I've become so used to this that anything over 75 seems hot.
