FSO: Rocks

I am about to head to Italy for two weeks--poor me--but I'll see you all when I get back!

In Oregon we have plenty of volcanic rocks: this amazing cliff is near the Warm Springs Reservation just a few hours northeast of Corvallis.

Stones in a mountain stream about 2 hours from our house, in the Cascades.

These are salmon spawning in a little stream just outside of Corvallis. They seek out pebbled stream beds to lay their eggs, and the pebbles have to be Just Right.

These smooth black stones at Yaquina Head in nearby Newport make an amazing sound when the tide comes in.

In the distance, beyond the black stone beach, you can see the "stacks" for which the Oregon coast is known.

This rock and stream is near our house, but it's a full morning's hike to go there and come back. It's worth it though, just to sit on the boulder and look at the water.

  7. I suppose you are in Italy smack in the middle of the soccer fever. I think New Zealand plays Italy next.

There is talk about loss in productivity. So don't go into a restaurant when Italy is playing. Otherwise you get no service.

I love the rocks in your area. The first photo is spectacular but I think I am really fascinated with the black stones. They are unique and I like them a lot.

  14. I love the Oregon coast almost as much as I love the coast of NE. I could hear the sounds made by the stones at Yaquina Head as I looked at that particular photo. All of these photos are amazing.
