Friday My Town Shoot Out: Simplicity

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
Attributed to Leonardo da Vinci

Ah the challenge for this week's shoot-out is a mighty one.

Rhododendrons are finally on their way out. The dark background here is a window in our house.

Not only should our pictures reflect the uniqueness of our town, they should also show that we learned something from reading Rebecca's suggestions on simplicity of composition.

Last weekend John and I attended the nearby Inavale Horse Trials, which attracts several hundred amazing riders to our town every year.
It was tricky to get pictures that weren't too far away and didn't have fences, posts, or spectators complicating the background.
Last week we also had a wonderful canoe ride on the Siletz river. This is somebody's swimming hole rope, resting on the surface of a pool.

Part of an old-style fuel tank on a nearby farm.

Daisies cover the meadows right now. It seems a shame to convert their bright colors to black and white, doesn't it?

But black and white is the simplest thing I can think of, and the daisy still looks like a daisy.

  4. I went back and looked 4 times, trying to pick a FAV and make a decent comment... I think the daisies won.... but would have liked the color or gold against a blue sky too. And the boot/stirup/horse's leg.... okay and the rope & water. great shots All.

  5. I'm BAD! - I read through a few more posts, then realized that your daisies are probably white.... here we have a simular flower that is bright yellow with a black center, and my mind put those colors in your photo - I sitll love that photo best.
